It detects IP cameras, consumer cameras, and hidden cameras using generic IoT chipsets by checking MAC addresses, camera-specific ports, RTSP streams, and mDNS broadcasts. It cannot detect offline, wired-only, or cellular-connected cameras.

Does privacy-scanner work on Windows and macOS?▼

Yes. The Python scanner runs on Linux, macOS, and Windows, as long as nmap is installed and you run it with administrator or sudo privileges.

What should I do if the scan finds a camera?▼

Do not disconnect or tamper with it. Photograph the device, save the HTML report as evidence, and report it to your rental platform or local law enforcement.
