What problem does it solve?

Receiver-side handoff verification skill — the sister to /handoff (writer side); together they close the multi-session pickup loop. Fresh-session pickup runs ONE command that resolves the LIVE handoff by its status: active frontmatter tag, loads the handoff doc + always-loaded project baseline + every cited reference file + surface-triggered required reading, verifies git state matches the handoff's claims, verifies the predecessor unit's claimed artifacts actually landed, reconciles the decision log (decided vs still-open), runs the deterministic doc/plan CI sweep, runs the readiness gate, and recreates the task list. Closes the "fresh session forgets to load required reading / trusts a stale handoff" failure mode. If NO handoff exists → SET DIRECTION mode (orient + help pick where to go). Output: PICKUP-READY status + a concrete "your next action is X" instruction.
