What problem does it solve?

Live Activities and Dynamic Island enable real-time, glanceable updates in iOS apps, but implementing end-to-end lifecycle and server orchestration is complex and error-prone.

Core Features & Use Cases

Define ActivityAttributes and ContentState for static vs dynamic data.
Manage the Activity lifecycle with ActivityContent, including start, update, and end.
Design Lock Screen and Dynamic Island presentations, push-to-update payloads, and server-token workflows.
Example use: real-time delivery updates, sports scores, ride-status, or workout timers.

Quick Start

Start a Live Activity with defined attributes and an initial content state, enable push updates, and end the activity when it completes.

FAQPage Schema

How do I orchestrate Live Activities and Dynamic Island presentations in iOS?▼

Live Activities orchestration in iOS is handled by ActivityKit, which manages the ActivityContent lifecycle, including Attributes and ContentState definitions, to display real-time, time-sensitive updates on the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island.

How do I update a Live Activity using push notifications?▼

You can update a Live Activity using push-to-update payloads and server token workflows. ActivityKit decodes the incoming content-state payloads, which must match the ContentState Codable contract to dynamically refresh the Lock Screen presentation.

What is the difference between ActivityAttributes and ContentState in ActivityKit?▼

ActivityAttributes define the static data for a Live Activity, while ContentState manages the dynamic data that changes over time. Both are managed within ActivityContent to handle the complete lifecycle from start to end.

Do I need specific Info.plist keys to enable Live Activities?▼

Yes, enabling Live Activities requires proper Info.plist keys and compliance with safety and availability checks. This configuration ensures iOS allows the app to initiate time-sensitive Lock Screen and Dynamic Island presentations.

Can I use ActivityKit for real-time delivery tracking and sports scores?▼

Yes, ActivityKit is designed for real-time, time-sensitive tasks such as delivery updates, sports scores, ride-status, and workout timers. It provides glanceable updates directly on the iOS Lock Screen and Dynamic Island.
