SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

💡 This Skill includes references (resource) components.

What problem does it solve?

Angular developers grapple with boilerplate and complexity when managing asynchronous state with Observables. Signals offer a fast, fine-grained alternative that makes state simpler to read and write.

Core Features & Use Cases

Writable state with signal()
Derived state with computed()
Dependent state with linkedSignal()
Side effects with effect()
RxJS interoperability and practical Angular usage patterns
Examples and patterns described in references/signal-patterns.md for deeper workflows

Quick Start

Create a signal to hold state, derive computed state from it, and observe changes in your Angular component.

FAQPage Schema

How do I manage Angular state with signals instead of Observables?▼

Angular signals replace Observable boilerplate with fine-grained reactivity for simpler state management. You can use signal for writable state, computed for derived state, and effect for side effects.

What is the best way to create derived state in Angular?▼

Derived state in Angular is created using the computed function. It automatically tracks dependent signals and updates only when those specific dependencies change, ensuring efficient fine-grained reactivity.

Does Angular signals work with RxJS interop?▼

Yes, Angular signals support RxJS interoperability. This allows you to integrate signal-based reactivity with existing Observable streams and practical Angular usage patterns within your application.

How do I handle dependent state in Angular signals?▼

Dependent state in Angular signals is handled using linkedSignal. This provides a structured way to manage state that relies on other signals, alongside using effect for triggering side effects when values change.

Do I need a specific Angular version to use signals?▼

Yes, you need Angular v20 or higher to use this signals approach. It requires access to the @angular/core signals API to implement writable, derived, and dependent state management effectively.
