SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve?

Architectural teams often struggle to align decisions before coding, causing rework and misalignment across teams.

Core Features & Use Cases

Provides a structured template for architecture proposals to document problems, proposed solutions, scope, risks, and decisions.
Facilitates cross-team alignment and traceability by capturing evidence, decisions, and next steps.
Supports risk assessment and decision framing to reduce regression risk and scope creep.

Quick Start

Create a proposal document in docs/proposals/ with the required sections and evidence-based rationale.

Frequently Asked Questions about architectural-proposals

High-intent search queries and answers about installing and using this skill.

FAQPage Schema

What is an architectural proposal and why do I need one before implementation?▼

An architectural proposal codifies evidence-backed problem statements, proposed architecture, scope, and risks to align stakeholders and prevent cross-team misalignment and rework before coding begins.

How do I document architecture decisions to align cross-functional teams?▼

Document architecture decisions by creating a proposal in docs/proposals/ using a structured template that captures evidence-based rationale, risk assessments, decision-makers, and next steps for traceability.

What should be included in an architecture proposal for product-direction shifts?▼

Architecture proposals for product-direction shifts must include evidence-backed problem statements, proposed architecture, scope boundaries, risk assessments, and identified decision-makers with clear file paths.

Can I use a structured template for architecture reviews spanning multiple milestones?▼

Yes, you can use a structured template for architecture reviews across multiple milestones to facilitate cross-team alignment, capture decisions, frame risk assessment, and reduce scope creep.

What is the best way to mitigate regression risk and scope creep in software engineering projects?▼

The best way to mitigate regression risk and scope creep is to identify alignment-focused architectural proposals before implementation, supporting risk assessment and decision framing across teams.

When should I not use an architectural proposal template?▼

You should not use an architectural proposal template for minor code changes that lack cross-team impact, as the overhead of documenting problem statements and decision-makers outweighs the alignment benefits.
