SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

💡 This Skill includes references (resource) components.

What problem does it solve?

This Skill addresses the critical need for verifying the authenticity and validity of European Digital Identity Wallets by defining requirements for Wallet Unit Attestations (WUAs) and key attestation.

Core Features & Use Cases

WUA Lifecycle Management: Covers the creation, binding, and revocation of Wallet Unit Attestations.
Key Attestation: Ensures secure binding of private keys within Wallet Secure Cryptographic Devices (WSCDs).
Use Case: When a PID Provider issues credentials, this Skill ensures the Wallet Unit is authenticated and its attestation is valid and cryptographically bound, preventing the issuance of data to compromised wallets.

Quick Start

Understand the purpose and legal requirements for Wallet Unit Attestations in the EUDI Wallet ecosystem.

FAQPage Schema

What is Wallet Unit Attestation in the EUDI framework?▼

Wallet Unit Attestation (WUA) verifies the authenticity and validity of European Digital Identity Wallets by defining high-level requirements for WUA lifecycle, formats, and key attestation within the EUDI framework.

How does key attestation bind private keys to Wallet Secure Cryptographic Devices?▼

Key attestation ensures the secure binding of private keys within Wallet Secure Cryptographic Devices (WSCDs), cryptographically linking the WUA to the hardware to prevent credential issuance to compromised wallets.

When do I need to verify WUA revocation status for PID Provider credential issuance?▼

Verify WUA revocation status during PID Provider credential issuance to ensure the Wallet Unit is authenticated, its attestation is valid, and data is not issued to compromised or revoked wallets.

Does Wallet Unit Attestation align with the European Digital Identity Regulation?▼

Yes, Wallet Unit Attestation aligns with legal mandates from the European Digital Identity Regulation and related Commission Implementing Regulations (CIRs), defining authenticity, validity, and revocation mechanisms.

What are the limitations of relying solely on WUA for digital identity security?▼

Relying solely on WUA does not prevent data interception during transit; WUA only authenticates the Wallet Unit and validates its cryptographic binding to a WSCD before credential issuance occurs.
