SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

💡 This Skill includes references (resource) components.

What problem does it solve?

This Skill helps teams systematically identify, assess, and prioritize the underlying assumptions behind critical product decisions or strategic bets, reducing the risk of costly failures.

Core Features & Use Cases

Assumption Identification: Guides users to surface assumptions across key categories (Customer, Problem, Solution, Market, Business, Competitive).
Risk Assessment: Scores assumptions based on impact if wrong, confidence level, and evidence quality.
Prioritization Matrix: Visualizes assumptions on a 2x2 matrix to guide validation efforts.
Validation Planning: Facilitates the design of tests for high-risk assumptions.
Use Case: Before launching a new feature, use this skill to map out all the assumptions about customer adoption, market demand, and technical feasibility, ensuring the most critical ones are validated first.

Quick Start

Use the assumption-map skill to map the assumptions for our new freemium tier launch.

High-intent search queries and answers about installing and using this skill.

FAQPage Schema

What is an assumption map for product strategy and when do I need one?▼

Assumption mapping scores underlying beliefs across customer, problem, and business dimensions to prioritize validation efforts. You need it before launching new features or strategic bets to systematically reduce the risk of costly failures.

How do I prioritize product assumptions for risk assessment?▼

Prioritize product assumptions by scoring their impact if wrong, confidence level, and evidence quality. This risk assessment places assumptions on a 2x2 prioritization matrix to guide which high-risk items require validation testing first.

How do I create a validation plan for critical product assumptions?▼

Create a validation plan by first mapping assumptions across customer, problem, solution, and market dimensions. After scoring impact and confidence, use the prioritization matrix to design targeted validation tests for your highest-risk assumptions.

Can I map competitive and business model assumptions using lean startup methodology?▼

Yes, assumption mapping identifies beliefs across six categories including competitive and business dimensions alongside customer and problem areas. This lean startup approach ensures all strategic bets are systematically surfaced and scored for validation.

What is the best way to assess technical feasibility and market demand assumptions before a feature launch?▼

The best way to assess feasibility and demand assumptions is mapping them across customer, problem, solution, and market dimensions. Scoring impact, confidence, and evidence quality visualizes risks on a matrix to guide targeted validation planning.

What categories of assumptions should I evaluate for a new freemium tier launch?▼

Evaluate assumptions across customer, problem, solution, market, business, and competitive dimensions. Scoring these categories by impact, confidence, and evidence quality surfaces critical risks about adoption and demand before launching your freemium tier.
