SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve?

Implement coherent, secure, and operable server-side functionality while minimizing scope creep and ensuring production-ready quality for backend changes. It removes ambiguity around contract validation, persistence behavior, authorization, and observability so engineers can deliver reliable services within an approved story.

Core Features & Use Cases

Implement APIs, domain logic, persistence operations, and background jobs with clear transaction boundaries and idempotency.
Enforce request/response contract validation and consistent authorization checks before coding changes.
Add automated tests, structured logging, metrics, and docstrings, and record development decisions in the story decision log.
Use case: adding an idempotent payment webhook handler or extending a service endpoint while preserving backward compatibility and observability.

Quick Start

Run the backend-development skill to implement a story-scoped backend change with contract validation, persistence updates, and automated tests.

Frequently Asked Questions about backend-development

High-intent search queries and answers about installing and using this skill.

FAQPage Schema

How do I implement backend services with idempotency and transactional integrity?▼

Implementing backend services with idempotency requires defining clear transaction boundaries and persistence operations. This skill applies domain logic and structured logging to ensure reliable, operable server-side behavior within approved story boundaries.

How do I enforce API contract validation and authorization checks during backend development?▼

Enforcing API contract validation and authorization checks involves validating request and response contracts before coding changes. This skill satisfies requirements for consistent authorization checks and contract validation within story-scoped implementation.

What is the best way to add observability and automated tests to an existing API endpoint?▼

Adding observability and automated tests to an API endpoint involves integrating structured logging, metrics, and docstrings. This skill implements these alongside transactional integrity to deliver testable, production-ready backend changes.

Can I use this approach to extend a service endpoint while preserving backward compatibility?▼

Using this approach to extend a service endpoint while preserving backward compatibility is supported. The skill implements server-side functionality and domain logic while minimizing scope creep and ensuring production-ready quality.

How do I handle idempotent payment webhook handlers in backend APIs?▼

Handling idempotent payment webhook handlers in backend APIs requires clear transaction boundaries and contract validation. This skill implements these operations to deliver secure, testable server-side behavior for payment processing.

Does implementing backend security require recording development decisions in a decision log?▼

Implementing backend security does require recording development decisions in a story decision log. This skill enforces authorization checks and records decisions to ensure coherent, secure, and operable server-side functionality.
