SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve?

BoxLang CLI scripting often requires consistent argument handling, REPL experimentation, and correct runtime context awareness. This skill provides a structured approach for building CLI tools and scripts in BoxLang, covering argument parsing, entry points, and command execution patterns.

Core Features & Use Cases

Structured argument parsing with CLIGetArgs and clear main() entry points.
REPL-based experimentation and inline scripting for rapid iteration.
Support for action commands (compile, cftranspile, featureaudit) and runtime detection.
Shebang-enabled scripts and built-in CLI functions for automation.

Quick Start

Create and run a simple BoxLang CLI script (MyApp.bxs) with a main() entry, parse arguments via CLIGetArgs(), and verify behavior in the REPL.

What is the best way to run BoxLang scripts from the command line?▼

The best way to run BoxLang scripts from the command line is by using shebang-enabled .bxs files with a defined main() entry point. This enables direct execution and automation for command-line tools.

Can I use a REPL for rapid BoxLang scripting and experimentation?▼

Yes, you can use the BoxLang REPL for rapid experimentation and inline scripting. It allows developers to iterate quickly on automation tasks and verify script behavior before finalizing command-line tools.

Does BoxLang CLI scripting support runtime context detection?▼

Yes, BoxLang CLI scripting supports runtime context detection, allowing scripts to be aware of their execution environment. This is essential for orchestrating action commands like compile, cftranspile, and featureaudit.

How do I structure a BoxLang class for command-line execution?▼

Structure a BoxLang class for command-line execution by defining a main() entry point in a .bxs script. Parse arguments via CLIGetArgs() and utilize built-in CLI functions to automate tasks and handle runtime contexts.
