💡 This Skill includes scripts (resource) and references (resource) and assets (resource) components.

What problem does it solve?

This Skill helps users clarify and develop their ideas into detailed designs, ensuring that every project starts with a solid foundation.

Core Features & Use Cases

Project Context Exploration: Understand the current project state by reviewing files, documents, and recent commits.
Clarifying Questions: Refine the idea through a series of structured questions.
Design Proposals: Present 2-3 different approaches with trade-offs and get user approval.
Documentation: Write and review design documents, ensuring clarity and completeness.
Spec Review Loop: Engage in a review loop with a spec-document-reviewer subagent to ensure the design is ready for implementation.
User Review Gate: Ensure the user is satisfied with the design before proceeding to implementation.
Visual Companion: Use a browser-based companion to show mockups, diagrams, and visual options during brainstorming.
Use Case: Imagine you are planning a new feature for a software application. Use this Skill to explore the requirements, design the feature, and get user approval before writing any code.

Quick Start

Use the brainstorming skill to start a new design session for a feature called 'User Profile Page'.

FAQPage Schema

How do I brainstorm and design a software feature before writing code?▼

To brainstorm a software feature, you can use collaborative dialogue and structured clarifying questions to explore project context, evaluate design proposals, and generate design documentation before implementation.

What is the best way to create detailed software design documents from initial ideas?▼

Creating detailed software design documents involves refining ideas through structured question-asking, presenting 2-3 design approaches with trade-offs, and engaging in a spec review loop to ensure clarity and completeness.

Can I review project files and recent commits to plan new software features?▼

Yes, project context exploration reviews existing files, documents, and recent commits to understand the current project state, ensuring your new feature design aligns with the established software architecture.

Do I need a visual companion to create mockups and diagrams during project planning?▼

A visual companion is required to display mockups, diagrams, and visual options during the design process, facilitating better collaborative dialogue and clearer project planning outcomes.

How does the spec review loop ensure a software design is ready for implementation?▼

The spec review loop engages a spec-document-reviewer subagent to validate the design document, ensuring completeness and clarity before passing through a user review gate to finalize implementation readiness.

Are external dependencies required to facilitate the software design process?▼

No external dependencies are required to facilitate the software design process, as the workflow relies entirely on internal collaborative dialogue, structured question-asking, and design documentation generation.
