SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve?

Brainstorming before design helps teams align on goals, surface assumptions, and structure a plan before committing to implementation, reducing rework and scope creep.

Core Features & Use Cases

Structured ideation: guides teams through context review, questions, and approach options to converge on design direction.
Design documentation: results in a written design spec and implementation plan to hand to engineers.
Collaboration support: works in solo or group sessions to elicit requirements and tradeoffs with clear decisions.

Quick Start

Begin by outlining the project context, then ask one clarifying question at a time to converge on a design before implementation.

Frequently Asked Questions about brainstorming

High-intent search queries and answers about installing and using this skill.

FAQPage Schema

How do I structure brainstorming sessions to align product design goals before implementation?▼

Structure brainstorming sessions by reviewing project context, asking clarifying questions sequentially, and evaluating approach options to align product design goals. This disciplined workflow surfaces assumptions and constraints, resulting in a written design spec and implementation plan to prevent scope creep.

What is the best way to turn early-stage product ideas into concrete design specs and implementation plans?▼

The best way to turn early-stage product ideas into concrete design specs is through structured ideation that elicits requirements and tradeoffs. This process converges on a clear design direction, producing written documentation and an implementation plan ready for engineers.

Can I use structured ideation workflows for solo design exploration as well as team collaboration?▼

Yes, you can use structured ideation workflows for both solo design exploration and team collaboration. The process adapts to elicit goals, surface constraints, and define success criteria whether working individually or in groups to align on design direction.

How do I document design tradeoffs and decisions to reduce rework during product development?▼

Document design tradeoffs and decisions by capturing the context review, clarifying questions, and chosen approaches during brainstorming. This generates a written design spec and implementation plan that hands off clear requirements to engineers, reducing rework.

Why does my design process suffer from scope creep and misaligned requirements before engineering starts?▼

Your design process suffers from scope creep and misaligned requirements because brainstorming before design is missing. Structured ideation surfaces hidden assumptions and establishes success criteria early, producing a concrete implementation plan to prevent this.

Does structured brainstorming require specific project management components or frameworks to get started?▼

No, structured brainstorming requires no specific project management components or frameworks to get started. You only need to outline your project context first, then ask clarifying questions one at a time to naturally converge on a design direction.
