What problem does it solve?

Canvas provides a visual layer to organize wiki content by placing images, text cards, PDFs, and wiki pages into named zones with auto-positioning.

Core Features & Use Cases

Visual canvas for wiki knowledge to arrange assets spatially within zones.
Auto-positioning and zone-based layout to keep content organized.
Integration with image capture workflows (e.g., /banana) and easy creation of new canvases for dashboards, mood boards, and concept maps.
Supports wiki content types (images, PDFs, notes, and pages) rendered as canvas nodes with stable IDs.

Quick Start

Create wiki/canvases/main.canvas with a default General zone and begin placing items using the auto-positioning workflow.

High-intent search queries and answers about installing and using this skill.

FAQPage Schema

How do I create a visual canvas for wiki pages in Obsidian?▼

Auto-positioning on a visual canvas works by using an auto-layout algorithm to place new nodes into named zones and update the overview. It automatically arranges spatial assets and persists changes across saves using the JSON canvas format.

Can I use Obsidian canvas layouts for project dashboards and mood boards?▼

Yes, you can design dashboards and mood boards by creating a canvas with a default General zone and placing items using the auto-positioning workflow. This integrates with image capture workflows to easily create concept maps.

Does the visual canvas format support PDFs and image capture integration?▼

Yes, the visual canvas format supports PDFs, images, text cards, and wiki pages rendered as nodes with stable IDs. It also integrates with image capture workflows like /banana to add new visual assets to the spatial layout.

What is the best way to organize wiki content spatially using zones?▼

The best way to organize wiki content spatially is by using a zone-based layout with auto-positioning. This approach automatically places images, text cards, and PDFs into named zones on a visual canvas, keeping knowledge overviews structured.

Do I need a specific file format to persist canvas layout changes across saves?▼

Yes, you need the JSON canvas format to persist canvas layout changes across saves. This format records the spatial positions of nodes within named zones, ensuring the auto-layout algorithm updates and maintains the overview correctly.

Why does my wiki content need auto-positioning on a visual canvas?▼

Wiki content needs auto-positioning on a visual canvas to automatically organize expanding knowledge graphs and dashboards. The auto-layout algorithm places new nodes into defined zones, preventing manual arrangement overhead and keeping views structured.
