What problem does it solve?
Close reading in history is often reduced to summarising content, so students miss how word choice, tone, and rhetoric function as evidence of an author’s perspective and reliability.
Core Features & Use Cases
- Evidence-based close reading design: Generates a close-reading progression that distinguishes content extraction from language-as-evidence analysis.
- Explicit 3-part instruction: Produces an I DO (think-aloud), WE DO (guided practice), and YOU DO (independent practice) sequence tailored to the provided student level and challenge.
- Source-type-adapted language prompts: Creates prompts that shift attention appropriately (e.g., speeches vs. private letters vs. testimony) to connect language to perspective and purpose.
- Failure patterns + assessment indicators: Identifies common student misconceptions and gives observable signs for discussion and written work.
Quick Start
Use the close-reading-skill-builder skill with your inputs (historical_topic, student_level, and current_challenge) to generate a ready-to-teach close reading plan for a specific source type.
