SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

💡 This Skill includes references (resource) components.

What problem does it solve?

This Skill helps in planning and strategizing cloud migration efforts, including lift-and-shift, re-platforming, and phased migration waves, ensuring a structured approach to moving applications and infrastructure to the cloud.

Core Features & Use Cases

Migration Planning: Develop detailed plans for lift-and-shift, re-platforming, and incremental migration waves.
Artifact Generation: Produce necessary documentation such as design plans, configuration specifications, and validation checklists.
Use Case: A company needs to migrate its on-premises database to a cloud-based solution. This Skill can be used to define the migration strategy, select appropriate cloud services, and outline the steps for a phased rollout with rollback procedures.

Quick Start

Use the cloud-migration skill to plan a lift-and-shift migration for the user authentication service.

High-intent search queries and answers about installing and using this skill.

FAQPage Schema

How do I plan a cloud migration strategy for an on-premises application?▼

To plan a cloud migration strategy, you must evaluate system context and target environments to choose between lift-and-shift or re-platforming. This approach generates design plans, configuration specs, and validation checklists to ensure structured application and infrastructure movement.

What is the difference between lift-and-shift and re-platforming during cloud migration?▼

Lift-and-shift moves applications to the cloud with minimal code changes, while re-platforming adapts the architecture to leverage cloud-native services. Choosing the right cloud migration strategy depends on your performance, data consistency, and compliance requirements.

How do I structure migration waves for moving infrastructure to the cloud?▼

Structuring migration waves involves sequencing application and infrastructure rollouts based on dependencies and target environments. This phased cloud migration approach generates validation artifacts and rollback procedures to maintain data consistency throughout the process.

Can I use this approach to generate validation checklists and configuration specifications for cloud migration?▼

Yes, planning a cloud migration strategy includes generating design plans, configuration specifications, and validation checklists. These documents address compliance and performance needs through decision trees, ensuring the target environment meets all requirements.

Does cloud migration planning support compliance and data consistency requirements?▼

Cloud migration planning addresses compliance, performance, and data consistency needs by applying decision trees and conditional logic. This ensures that the chosen migration strategy and target environments align with strict regulatory and operational standards.

What is the best way to define a rollback procedure for a phased cloud migration?▼

The best way to define rollback procedures for a phased cloud migration is to generate validation artifacts and design plans that account for data consistency. This structured planning ensures safe re-platforming or lift-and-shift execution across migration waves.
