SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

💡 This Skill includes references (resource) components.

What problem does it solve?

This Skill eliminates the tedious manual effort of planning and coordinating multi-language code refactors by producing a structured, user-reviewable plan.

Core Features & Use Cases

Plan File Generation: Create a .refactor-plan.md template for user review and approval.
Language Detection & Scope: Detects target languages (Java, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Go, Rust) and maps refactor tasks to language-specific patterns.
Impact & Risk Assessment: Provides an integrated checklist framework to evaluate API changes, test coverage, dependencies, and semantic meaning before execution.
Naming Convention Unification: Suggests consistent naming and component reorganization guided by references.
Workflow Automation: Supports a deterministic, template-driven workflow from scope analysis to plan validation.

Quick Start

Use the code-refactor skill on a sample project to generate a .refactor-plan.md and review the plan before applying any changes.

Frequently Asked Questions about code-refactor

FAQPage Schema

How do I plan a multi-language code refactor without missing dependencies?▼

Multi-language code refactor planning requires mapping tasks to language-specific patterns for Java, Python, JavaScript, Go, and Rust. It evaluates API changes, test coverage, and dependencies, producing an editable refactor plan for user approval before execution.

What is a refactor plan file and how does it manage code cleanup?▼

A refactor plan file is a structured markdown document that automates code cleanup workflows. It defines the scope from small adjustments to architectural changes, enforcing an actionable, risk-aware review step before any modifications are applied to the codebase.

Does automated refactor planning work with Java, Python, and Rust projects?▼

Automated refactor planning works with Java, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Go, and Rust projects. It detects the target languages within a project and maps the refactoring tasks to the appropriate language-specific patterns.

How do I assess architectural change risks before executing a code refactor?▼

Assess architectural change risks by using an integrated checklist framework to evaluate API changes, test coverage, and dependencies. This generates a risk-aware refactor plan that requires explicit user review before any code execution begins.

What's the best way to unify naming conventions across different codebases?▼

Unifying naming conventions across codebases involves suggesting consistent naming and component reorganization guided by reference templates. This is mapped to language-specific patterns to ensure structural consistency before execution.
