What problem does it solve?

This skill provides a comprehensive, read-only migration-readiness assessment for IBM Cognos Analytics environments, helping teams identify conversion gaps and estimate effort before moving to Sigma.

Core Features & Use Cases

Converter-Coverage Scoring: Classifies Data Modules and reports into auto-convert, hint, manual, or unhandled buckets based on the actual Cognos-to-Sigma converter logic.
Estate Inventory: Automatically walks the Cognos content tree to inventory modules, reports, and dashboards.
Effort Planning: Generates a wave-based migration plan to prioritize easy-win artifacts and identify complex gaps.

Quick Start

Run the cognos-assessment skill to scan your Cognos environment and generate a migration-readiness report in your local directory.

Frequently Asked Questions about cognos-assessment

High-intent search queries and answers about installing and using this skill.

FAQPage Schema

How do I assess my Cognos Analytics environment before migrating to Sigma?▼

Assess your Cognos estate by surveying content trees via REST API to inventory artifacts and score migration readiness against Sigma conversion rules. This process evaluates Data Modules and report specifications to classify conversion complexity and generate actionable remediation plans.

What is converter-coverage scoring for Cognos to Sigma migration?▼

Converter-coverage scoring classifies Cognos Data Modules and reports into auto-convert, hint, manual, or unhandled buckets based on actual Cognos-to-Sigma converter logic. This classification helps estimate migration effort and identify complex gaps requiring manual intervention.

How do I generate a wave-based migration plan from a Cognos inventory?▼

Generate a wave-based migration plan by running Node.js scoring scripts against your Cognos inventory to prioritize easy-win artifacts and identify complex gaps. The resulting plan provides actionable steps for phased migration based on conversion complexity.

Do I need write access to Cognos REST endpoints to run a migration readiness assessment?▼

No, you only need read-only access to Cognos REST endpoints to run the migration readiness assessment. The skill surveys content trees and evaluates artifacts without modifying your existing Cognos Analytics environment.

What Cognos artifacts are evaluated during a Sigma migration assessment?▼

The assessment evaluates Data Modules and report specifications by walking the Cognos content tree to inventory modules, reports, and dashboards. These artifacts are classified into conversion complexity buckets to determine migration readiness.

Can I estimate migration effort for large Cognos estates before moving to Sigma?▼

Yes, the assessment automatically inventories large Cognos estates and generates effort planning reports. By classifying artifacts into conversion complexity buckets, it identifies easy wins and complex gaps to create a prioritized wave-based migration plan.
