SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve?

Eight empirically grounded frameworks from cognitive science are provided to help generate genuinely novel research directions when brainstorming stalls.

Core Features & Use Cases

Eight cognitive frameworks (bisociation, problem reformulation, analogical reasoning, Boden's constraint manipulation, negation/inversion, abstraction laddering, adjacent possible, and Janusian thinking) to expand creative space.
Structured protocol combining frameworks for deep ideation across phases: map space, generate disruptions, deepen leads, evaluate.
Use cases include breaking out of local optima, pivoting research directions, and justifying pivots with structured reasoning.

Quick Start

Provide your current research question and apply the eight frameworks to generate novel directions.

FAQPage Schema

How do I generate novel research directions when I hit a dead end in CS or AI brainstorming?▼

Cognitive frameworks like bisociation, analogical reasoning, and constraint manipulation help generate novel research directions by mapping and disrupting your creative space. They provide structured protocols to break out of local optima when brainstorming stalls.

What is bisociation and how does it work for research ideation?▼

Bisociation is a cognitive framework that maps and disrupts creative space by connecting unrelated domains to produce novel research directions. It works alongside seven other frameworks to evaluate and deepen ideation leads.

Can I use analogical reasoning and constraint manipulation to pivot research topics?▼

Yes, analogical reasoning and Boden's constraint manipulation enable research pivots by reformulating problems and exploring the adjacent possible. These cognitive frameworks justify topic changes with structured reasoning.

What's the best way to break out of a local optimum when brainstorming research questions?▼

The best way to break out of local optima is applying a combined protocol of eight cognitive frameworks, including negation, inversion, and Janusian thinking. This structured protocol maps your creative space, generates disruptions, and evaluates ideas.

Does this creative thinking approach require specific input formats or prior dependencies?▼

No specific dependencies or input formats are required. You provide your current research question, and the eight cognitive frameworks process it directly to generate novel directions without external environment setup.

When should I use abstraction laddering and Janusian thinking for problem reformulation?▼

Use abstraction laddering and Janusian thinking for problem reformulation when you need to deepen leads and evaluate dialectical tensions in your research. These frameworks expand ideation after repeated dead ends.
