SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve?

Data governance frameworks are essential to ensure data is trustworthy, discoverable, and compliant across the data lifecycle. This skill provides a blueprint to catalog assets, trace data lineage, enforce quality rules, and manage access and retention.

Core Features & Use Cases

Catalog and metadata management for data assets (tables, files, APIs) including ownership, sensitivity, and freshness.
End-to-end lineage tracking from source to consumption (Bronze → Silver → Gold) to support compliance and impact analysis.
Automated quality rules and retention policies to enforce data reliability and lifecycle governance.
Access control and policy definitions to implement least-privilege data access across environments.

Quick Start

Catalog data assets, define lineage, and apply automated quality and retention policies to establish governance.

High-intent search queries and answers about installing and using this skill.

FAQPage Schema

How do I establish automated data governance across my data pipelines?▼

Establish data governance by cataloging data assets, tracing end-to-end lineage, and applying automated quality rules, access policies, and retention schedules to enforce compliance across data pipelines and workloads.

What is end-to-end data lineage tracking and how does it support compliance?▼

End-to-end data lineage tracking maps data flow from source to consumption across Bronze, Silver, and Gold layers, enabling impact analysis and ensuring regulatory compliance by providing transparent data origins and transformations.

Can I use this to implement least-privilege access control for data assets?▼

Yes, you can define access control policies to implement least-privilege data access across environments, ensuring sensitive data assets like tables, files, and APIs are secured according to ownership and sensitivity metadata.

What's the best way to manage data retention schedules and quality rules?▼

The best way to manage retention and quality is through automated policies that enforce data reliability and lifecycle governance, applying defined quality rules and retention schedules directly across your cataloged data assets.

Do I need a metadata catalog to trace data lineage from source to consumption?▼

Yes, a metadata catalog is required to document data assets including ownership, sensitivity, and freshness, which serves as the foundation for tracing end-to-end lineage and enforcing governance policies effectively.
