FAQPage Schema

How do I improve figure captions and axis labels for a manuscript?▼

To improve manuscript figures, apply design principles like explicit axes, clear units, and self-contained captions that explain what is shown, how it was produced, and the conclusions. This ensures visuals communicate results clearly and align with the manuscript message.

What are colorblind-safe data visualizations and how do I apply them?▼

Colorblind-safe data visualizations use specific color encodings that remain distinguishable to readers with color vision deficiencies. You apply them by choosing accessible color palettes and defining explicit color meanings within your manuscript figures to enhance overall accessibility.

Can I use this workflow to improve figures in both Word and LaTeX documents?▼

Yes, you can use this workflow to improve figures, tables, and captions in both Word and LaTeX documents. It provides guidance on axis labeling, color choices, and caption completeness tailored for manuscript preparation across these formats.

What is the one-message-per-figure principle in data visualization?▼

The one-message-per-figure principle is a design rule stating that a visual should convey a single, clear conclusion. It ensures figures remain focused, avoiding clutter so readers immediately grasp the specific point the visual explanation intends to communicate.

How do I write self-contained captions for research figures?▼
