SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

💡 This Skill includes references (resource) components.

What problem does it solve?

Databricks teams waste time manually wiring dashboards, pipelines, jobs, and permissions across dev/staging/prod, leading to inconsistencies and fragile deployments.

Core Features & Use Cases

Multi-environment bundle scaffolding (dev/prod targets): Parameterizes catalog/schema/warehouse so the same resources deploy correctly across environments.
Declarative resource management: Defines and deploys dashboards, pipelines, jobs, volumes, apps, and SQL alerts using bundle configuration.
Best-practice pathing and permissions guidance: Prevents common deployment failures by documenting critical relative path rules and resource-specific permission formats (including alerts and volumes).
CI/CD workflow support: Centralizes configuration in databricks.yml with included resource files so automated pipelines can validate and deploy reliably.

Quick Start

Use the databricks-bundles skill to generate a databricks.yml plus resources yml files for your dashboards, pipelines, and jobs with dev and prod targets parameterized by catalog and schema.

FAQPage Schema

How do I automate Databricks asset bundles for multi-environment CI/cd deployment?▼

You can automate Databricks asset bundles by defining a root databricks.yml with parameterized targets for dev and prod, using environment variables for catalog, schema, and warehouse to ensure consistent CI/CD deployment.

What is the best way to structure Databricks bundle configurations for pipelines and dashboards?▼

The best way to structure Databricks bundle configurations is using include-based resource composition, separating dashboards, pipelines, jobs, and SQL alerts into individual resource files referenced by the root databricks.yml.

Can I define permissions for SQL alerts and volumes in a Databricks bundle?▼

Yes, Databricks bundles support configuring resource-specific permissions for SQL alerts and volumes, providing best-practice pathing and permission formats to prevent common deployment failures during validation and deployment.

How does Databricks bundle deployment handle environment variables for Unity Catalog?▼

Databricks bundle deployment handles Unity Catalog integration by passing environment variables for catalog, schema, warehouse, and bundle.target, allowing the same resources to deploy correctly across different environments.

Do I need a root SKILL.md entrypoint to generate Databricks bundle configurations?▼

Yes, generating Databricks bundle configurations requires a root SKILL.md entrypoint to automate authoring, define bundle targets, and execute deterministic validation, deploy, and run commands for your resources.
