SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve?

Lakebase Autoscaling patterns and best practices to standardize how teams build, deploy, and govern Lakebase Autoscaling resources.

Core Features & Use Cases

Patterns and best practices for configuring autoscaling compute, branching for dev/test workflows, scale-to-zero, instant restore, and OAuth authentication.
Use cases include building applications with autoscaling Postgres backends, implementing database branching for dev/test, performing reverse ETL via synced tables, and securely connecting applications to Lakebase.

Quick Start

Configure a Lakebase Autoscaling project with autoscale compute and OAuth credentials following the patterns described.

Frequently Asked Questions about databricks-lakebase-autoscale

High-intent search queries and answers about installing and using this skill.

FAQPage Schema

How do I configure autoscaling for a Postgres backend on Databricks Lakebase?▼

Lakebase autoscaling uses standardized patterns to dynamically manage Postgres compute resources on Databricks, applying configurations for scale-to-zero and instant restore based on workload demand.

What is the best way to implement database branching for dev/test workflows in Lakebase?▼

Database branching for dev/test workflows in Lakebase uses standardized patterns to create isolated database copies, allowing development and testing against production-like data without impacting the main environment.

How does reverse ETL work with synced tables in Databricks Lakebase?▼

Reverse ETL via synced tables in Lakebase synchronizes processed data from the analytical store back to operational Postgres databases, enabling downstream applications to access fresh analytics data directly.

Can I use OAuth credentials to securely connect applications to Lakebase?▼

Yes, OAuth authentication patterns provide a standardized method for securely connecting external applications to Lakebase, ensuring governed access control without relying on static database credentials.

Does Lakebase support scale-to-zero capabilities for idle Postgres instances?▼

Yes, scale-to-zero is a core Lakebase autoscaling pattern that automatically terminates idle Postgres compute resources to optimize infrastructure costs, paired with instant restore for rapid reactivation.

When should I use instant restore instead of keeping a Lakebase Postgres instance running?▼

Instant restore pairs with scale-to-zero for development or low-traffic environments, minimizing idle compute costs while preserving Postgres database state for rapid recovery when traffic resumes.
