SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve?

Patterns and best practices for using Lakebase Autoscaling (next-gen managed PostgreSQL) with autoscaling, branching, scale-to-zero, and instant restore.

Core Features & Use Cases

Autoscaling compute, branching, scale-to-zero, instant restore, and OAuth credential patterns for Lakebase.
Guidance for projects, branches, computes, and reverse ETL workflows across AWS regions.
Use cases include dev/test environments with Git-like branching and cost savings via scale-to-zero.

Quick Start

Create a Lakebase Autoscaling project and connect to the production branch to begin provisioning autoscale compute, branches, and credentials.

Frequently Asked Questions about databricks-lakebase-autoscale

High-intent search queries and answers about installing and using this skill.

FAQPage Schema

How does autoscaling work for managed Postgres in Databricks?▼

Databricks Lakebase Autoscaling dynamically provisions compute resources for Postgres based on workload demand. Patterns include scale-to-zero for cost savings and instant restore to handle variable traffic spikes efficiently.

How do I set up a dev environment with branching in Databricks Lakebase?▼

Set up a dev environment by creating a Lakebase Autoscaling project and connecting to the production branch. You can then provision isolated computes and use Git-like branching to manage dev and test workflows.

Can I scale my Postgres compute to zero to save costs?▼

Yes, you can scale Postgres compute to zero to optimize costs. The Lakebase Autoscaling patterns support scale-to-zero functionality, automatically de-provisioning compute resources when your data applications are idle.

What is the best way to manage OAuth credentials for Lakebase Postgres?▼

The best way to manage OAuth credentials is by applying secure credential patterns provided for Databricks Lakebase. These patterns ensure safe access when provisioning autoscaled computes and managing cross-region workflows.

Does Databricks Lakebase support cross-region availability for reverse ETL?▼

Yes, Databricks Lakebase supports cross-region availability for reverse ETL workflows. Guidance covers managing projects, branches, and computes across AWS regions to ensure resilient data application deployment.
