What problem does it solve?
This Skill prevents AI agents from shipping disconnected pipelines or “tables-as-products” by turning upstream requirements and KPIs into a clearly bounded, consumer-driven data product specification with explicit service, trust, access, ownership, and lifecycle expectations.
Core Features & Use Cases
- Defines a data product boundary and promise: captures what is inside vs non-scope, primary/secondary consumers, supported use cases, and product outputs so Phase 05 can assess sources safely.
- Translates business context into product decisions: maps business questions, functional/non-functional requirements, and KPIs into a specification that can be reviewed, evidenced, and revised.
- Creates Phase 04 governance artifacts: generates the Data Product Specification plus Phase 04 support plan, evidence pack, artifact revision notes, Done Gate, and Phase 04→Phase 05 handoff without designing physical schemas or implementation.
Quick Start
Use the des-data-product-definition skill to produce _des-output/planning-artifacts/04-data-product-specification.md from your existing Phase 01–03 planning artifacts and Phase 03→04 handoff, then generate the Phase 04 support plan, evidence pack, and Phase 04→Phase 05 handoff ready for des-data-source-assessment.
