SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve?

Design briefs translate complex feature specifications into structured context for design teams, aligning goals, constraints, and handoff deliverables to speed up delivery and reduce miscommunication.

Core Features & Use Cases

Standard Design Brief Template: captures user context, goals, constraints, technical and data boundaries, accessibility, platform requirements, and design-system guidance to enable consistent handoffs.
Interaction and Pattern Documentation: provides interaction specification patterns and clear behavior definitions to reduce ambiguity during implementation.
Constraint Communication: bridges technical constraints and designer decisions with practitioner-friendly framing and examples.
Component Inventory: templates to inventory existing vs new DS components for a feature.

Quick Start

High-intent search queries and answers about installing and using this skill.

FAQPage Schema

How do I write a design brief from a feature specification?▼

A design brief translates feature specifications into structured context like user goals, constraints, and accessibility needs. You populate standard template sections covering user context, must-enable requirements, and design-system guidance to generate a complete handoff document.

What should be included in a design handoff document for developers?▼

A design handoff document should include user context, interaction patterns, technical boundaries, accessibility requirements, and a component inventory. Specifying clear behavior definitions and cross-functional constraints reduces implementation ambiguity for the engineering team.

How do I communicate technical constraints to designers?▼

Communicate technical constraints to designers by using practitioner-friendly framing within your design brief. Bridging technical limitations and designer decisions with clear examples ensures design teams understand data boundaries and platform requirements without ambiguity.

Can I document existing and new design system components for a feature?▼

Yes, you can document design system components by using a component inventory template. This lets you track existing versus new design system components required for a specific feature, ensuring consistent handoffs and maintaining system integrity.

What is the best way to structure design documentation for cross-functional teams?▼

The best way to structure design documentation is using a standardized brief with explicit sections for success criteria, out of scope elements, and constraints. This aligns product managers, UX designers, and engineers around shared goals and reduces miscommunication.

When do I need a design brief template?▼

You need a design brief template when translating feature specifications into structured context for design teams. It is required when aligning goals, documenting interaction patterns, and defining accessibility constraints to speed up delivery and ensure consistent handoffs.
