System Documentation
What problem does it solve?
Students often write in generic templates that fail to reflect the distinct structures and language of different disciplines. This Skill provides discipline-specific scaffolds that encode genre conventions (e.g., science explanations, historical arguments, literary analyses, mathematical explanations, geographical case studies), along with language toolkits and sentence frames to make disciplinary thinking explicit.
Core Features & Use Cases
- Complete, discipline-accurate genre structures that sequence the core stages students must learn (e.g., context, thesis, evidence, analysis, conclusion in history; aim/hypothesis/methods/results/discussion in science; close reading and consideration of technique in literature; etc.)
- Language toolkit including discipline-specific vocabulary, sentence starters, connectives, and hedging language
- Annotated model and differentiation options to support mixed-ability classes
- Guidance on how scaffolds support each genre's purpose and how to differentiate from weaker to stronger writers
- Use cases across science, history, English literature, mathematics, and geography
