SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

💡 This Skill includes references (resource) components.

What problem does it solve?

This Skill provides a comprehensive guide to designing and implementing double-entry ledger systems, ensuring financial data integrity and auditability.

Core Features & Use Cases

Chart of Accounts: Design a structured numbering system for financial accounts.
Sub-Ledger Reconciliation: Ensure AR, AP, and GL sub-ledgers accurately reconcile with control accounts.
Immutable Audit Trails: Implement secure, tamper-evident transaction history using hash chains and reversal patterns.
Balance Calculation Strategies: Choose between running balances (cached) and computed balances (derived), or a hybrid approach.
Event Sourcing: Apply the ledger-as-event-log pattern for a complete, replayable audit trail.
Use Case: When building a new accounting module for an e-commerce platform, use this Skill to define the chart of accounts, set up AR/AP sub-ledgers, and implement an immutable audit trail for all financial transactions.

Quick Start

Use the ledger-design skill to design a chart of accounts and implement immutable audit trails.

Frequently Asked Questions about domain-fintech:ledger-design

High-intent search queries and answers about installing and using this skill.

FAQPage Schema

How do I design a double-entry ledger system for an e-commerce platform?▼

To design a double-entry ledger system, you need to define a structured chart of accounts, establish AR/AP sub-ledgers, and implement immutable audit trails using hash chains to ensure financial data integrity and regulatory compliance.

What is the best way to implement an immutable audit trail for financial transactions?▼

An immutable audit trail is implemented using hash chains and reversal patterns to create secure, tamper-evident transaction histories. This ensures that financial records cannot be altered without detection, satisfying regulatory compliance requirements.

How do I reconcile sub-ledgers with the general ledger control accounts?▼

Reconciling sub-ledgers with the general ledger involves ensuring that AR, AP, and other sub-ledgers accurately match their corresponding GL control accounts. This process maintains accurate financial record-keeping and prevents data discrepancies in your accounting software.

Should I use running balances or computed balances for ledger balance calculation?▼

You can choose between running balances (cached) and computed balances (derived) for ledger balance calculation, or adopt a hybrid approach. The right balance calculation strategy depends on your system's performance requirements and data query patterns.

How does event sourcing work for a double-entry ledger?▼

Event sourcing applies the ledger-as-event-log pattern to a double-entry ledger, creating a complete, replayable audit trail of financial transactions. This approach ensures that all state changes are captured as immutable events for accurate historical reconstruction.

Do I need a specific framework to build a fintech ledger with debit-credit balance rules?▼

Building a fintech ledger does not require a specific framework, but it does require strict adherence to core accounting principles like debit-credit balance, entry immutability, and sub-ledger to GL reconciliation to ensure tamper-evident transaction histories.
