SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve?

This section helps teams implement EN 50128 testing practices for C programs by providing a clear framework for coverage, traceability, and fault-injection testing using the Unity framework.

Core Features & Use Cases

Define SIL-based coverage requirements (statement, branch, condition, MC/DC)
Provide reusable Unity-based unit test patterns and fault-injection test templates
Generate and interpret coverage reports (gcov/lcov) and maintain test traceability to requirements
Support integration into EN 50128 lifecycle (V-Model, SIL gates)

Quick Start

Run a suite of Unity-based unit tests for a C module and review the resulting coverage report.

Frequently Asked Questions about en50128-testing

High-intent search queries and answers about installing and using this skill.

FAQPage Schema

How do I implement EN 50128 testing coverage requirements for C programs?▼

To implement EN 50128 testing coverage, define SIL-based requirements including statement, branch, condition, and MC/DC coverage for your C programs. The framework provides reusable patterns to satisfy these coverage gates across SIL levels 0-4.

How do I set up fault injection testing using the Unity test framework?▼

Set up fault injection testing using Unity by applying the provided reusable fault-injection test templates. These templates integrate with your C module tests to validate error handling and robustness against injected faults.

What is the best way to generate EN 50128 coverage reports with gcov and lcov?▼

Generate EN 50128 coverage reports by running Unity-based unit tests and interpreting the resulting gcov and lcov outputs. This process provides the metrics needed to verify statement, branch, and MC/DC coverage compliance.

Does EN 50128 testing require traceability from requirements to Unity unit tests?▼

Yes, EN 50128 testing requires traceability to requirements. The framework helps maintain test traceability by mapping your Unity-based unit and integration tests directly to defined software requirements across the V-Model lifecycle.

Can I use Unity test patterns for C program integration testing at SIL 4?▼

Yes, you can use Unity test patterns for C program integration testing at SIL 4. The framework outlines testing methodologies and reusable patterns specifically designed to support safety integrity levels ranging from 0 to 4.

What are the limitations of using Unity for EN 50128 fault injection and coverage testing?▼

Limitations of using Unity for EN 50128 testing include its focus on C programs and reliance on external tools like gcov and lcov for coverage reporting. The framework provides templates and patterns but requires manual integration into the V-Model lifecycle.
