What problem does it solve?

It prevents overconfident analysis by mapping every claim to an explicit epistemic status, then showing where high-confidence conclusions depend on weaker foundations.

Core Features & Use Cases

  • Epistemic status audit: Inventories claims and assigns Known, Reasonably believed, Assumed, Hoped, or Unknown to each one so uncertainty isn’t hidden inside confident language.
  • Dependency-chain risk spotting: Traces which claims support others and flags when a confident conclusion inherits the weakest link.
  • Status inflation detection: Identifies patterns like confidence laundering, expertise elision, or motivated inflation so the confidence level matches the underlying evidence.
  • High-stakes unknown isolation: Prioritizes load-bearing unknowns/hopes for investigation so you know what to verify first.
  • Use cases: Planning with unclear inputs, technical or policy analysis where assumptions matter, argumentative writing that must be honest about evidence strength, and decision-making where “confidence” must be auditable.

Quick Start

Use the epistemology-epistemic-status skill on your situation and ask it to produce an epistemic status map plus dependency flags and high-stakes unknowns.
