What problem does it solve?

It resolves confusion about what kind of claim someone is making by identifying the knowledge type (a priori vs. a posteriori, propositional vs. procedural vs. acquaintance, and its source), so you can apply the right standards of justification and evidence.

Core Features & Use Cases

  • Claim-to-knowledge-type classification: Determines whether a claim is reason-based or evidence-based, and whether it’s about facts, skills, or direct familiarity.
  • Source-aware evaluation: Traces whether the claim is grounded in perception, inference, testimony, intuition, or memory, then flags likely vulnerabilities.
  • Type-confusion diagnosis: Identifies common reasoning errors like treating empirical claims as obvious by logic, or treating testimony as if it were firsthand perception.
  • Practical use: Helps when someone says “obviously,” “any reasonable person,” or “I just know,” but you suspect the epistemic category and justification standards are mismatched.

Quick Start

Ask the epistemology-knowledge-types skill to classify the knowledge type behind the claim “X,” then explain what evidence standards apply and what type of error would most likely invalidate it.
