What problem does it solve?
It reduces user precision effort and time-to-target by placing high-frequency or hard-to-find actions where the cursor (or thumb) can “fly to” the boundary of the screen.
Core Features & Use Cases
- Edge-anchored navigation and global controls: Sticky headers/footers and edge-positioned menus make primary actions faster to acquire than mid-screen alternatives.
- Accessible high-value targets at corners and sides: Corner-adjacent close/account controls and side drawers/panels leverage faster targeting on one or two axes.
- Better mobile interaction patterns: Bottom navigation and full-bleed CTAs align with thumb reach and edge advantage while accounting for safe-area insets.
Quick Start
Use the Fitts’s Law screen edge principle to move your primary actions (navigation, save/confirm CTAs, drawers, and close/account buttons) to the closest available screen edge or corner, while avoiding designs that add unnecessary all-around margins.
