FAQPage Schema

How do I create a game design document from a new game concept?▼

Create a game design document by translating your concept into structured sections covering Pitch, Core Loop, Mechanics, Progression, Art Style, and Audio. This provides a consistent template for quick start and iterative design across various game genres.

What should be included in a GDD to ensure balanced game progression?▼

A GDD ensuring balanced game progression must include Pitch, Core Loop, Mechanics, Progression, Art Style, and Audio sections. Defining these elements structures player psychology and iterative design goals to align the development team on milestones.

Can I use a single game design document template for different game genres?▼

Yes, you can use a single game design document template for different genres. The structure applies practical guidance to platformers, shooters, RPGs, and puzzle games by defining core mechanics and progression systems within a consistent outline.

What is a core loop in game design and how do I document it?▼

A core loop in game design is the central repetitive cycle of player actions that drives engagement. You document it within the GDD by defining mechanics and progression systems to guide implementation and ensure balanced player psychology.

Does this game design approach work for iterative development workflows?▼
