What problem does it solve?
This Skill helps you design formative assessments that reveal students’ historical thinking (not just their factual recall), so you can diagnose whether students can source, close-read, contextualise, and corroborate.
Core Features & Use Cases
- Assessment task generation: Produces document-based prompts where different skill levels produce meaningfully different responses.
- 3-level scoring rubrics: Creates Basic/Emergent/Proficient descriptors that distinguish mentioning a source from deploying historical thinking.
- Diagnostic interpretation: Explains what score patterns imply about instruction gaps and what misconceptions to look for.
- Validity and limitations: Includes notes on what the assessment measures and threats from construct-irrelevant variance.
Quick Start
Use the Skill to generate a 15–20 minute document-analysis diagnostic for your chosen historical topic, targeting specific historical thinking skills and producing tasks, rubrics, and diagnostic guidance.
