FAQPage Schema

How do I update running Elixir modules without restarting the application?▼

Hot code reloading updates running Elixir modules without application restarts, enabling rapid iteration. It uses a dev controller with endpoints like POST /dev/hot-reload to load new code at runtime.

Can I hot reload Phoenix code in a production-like environment for debugging?▼

Yes, hot-reload supports real-time debugging and safe testing of changes in production-like environments. It provides router configurations and setup guidance to integrate runtime updates into a Phoenix app.

How do I secure hot reload endpoints in an Elixir application?▼

You secure hot reload endpoints using the included authentication plug. You configure a development API key to authenticate requests before mounting endpoints like POST /dev/eval and GET /dev/modules.

What is the best way to swap code in a running Elixir app for rapid iteration?▼

The best way to swap code for rapid iteration is using hot code reloading. By mounting dev endpoints and performing a hot-reload, you update running Elixir modules instantly without server restarts.

Does hot code reloading work with Phoenix router configurations?▼
