System Documentation

What problem does it solve?

It eliminates guesswork when comparing command performance by producing repeatable timing results you can measure and ratchet over time.

Core Features & Use Cases

  • Hyperfine-based benchmarking: Runs one or two shell commands and captures timing statistics from the hyperfine CLI.
  • Structured JSON output: Produces JSON suitable for automation and experiment tracking (with mean/stddev/min/max and run counts).
  • Practical benchmarking modes: Supports warmup runs to reduce cold-start bias and configurable run counts for stable results.
  • Use Case: When you change a script or binary, benchmark before/after using the same command arguments to confirm the speedup is real rather than noise.

Quick Start

Benchmark a command by exporting its timing results to JSON: run hyperfine with --export-json and provide the exact command you want timed.
