SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve?

This Skill prevents large code changes from becoming risky, untestable, and hard to review by breaking them into small, working increments.

Core Features & Use Cases

Thin Vertical Slices: Implement one complete piece of functionality at a time so each step remains usable.
Test-and-Verify Discipline: Run tests, build checks, and manual verification after each increment to catch issues early.
Scope Control: Keep changes focused, rollback-friendly, and limited to the exact task at hand.
Use Case: A team adding a new feature across backend, API, and UI can deliver it in several safe steps instead of one massive risky merge.

Quick Start

Use the incremental-implementation skill to break this multi-file feature into the smallest testable slices and verify each slice before moving on.

FAQPage Schema

How do I break large code refactoring into smaller safe increments?▼

You can break large multi-file features into safe incremental slices by implementing one thin vertical slice at a time, testing and verifying each step before moving on to keep changes rollback-friendly.

What is the best way to ship multi-file features without risky merges?▼

The best way to ship multi-file features without risky merges is to deliver them in incremental slices, maintaining test-and-verify discipline after each step to catch issues early and keep the project compilable.

How does incremental implementation keep code review manageable?▼

Incremental implementation keeps code review manageable by limiting each commit to a focused, working increment, ensuring the changes are small, testable, and easier to review than one massive merge.

Can I use incremental slices for both new features and code refactoring?▼

Yes, you can use incremental slices for both new features and code refactoring, as the approach applies to any changes too large to ship in a single pass by keeping scope controlled and rollback-friendly.

When should I avoid shipping a large change in a single pass?▼

You should avoid shipping a large change in a single pass when it spans multi-file features or refactors, as doing so risks becoming untestable and hard to review without slice-by-slice verification.
