SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

💡 This Skill includes references (resource) components.

What problem does it solve?

Writers with existing manuscripts often cannot continue them inside an AI-assisted writing system without losing chapter order, character state, and canon consistency. This Skill turns an existing novel or draft into an editable, continuable InkOS project while keeping external reference material clearly separated from the user's own work.

Core Features & Use Cases

  • Manuscript Import: Converts existing text into real chapters of the active book, preserving natural chapter-number ordering and confirming the continuation point.
  • State Reconstruction: Rebuilds characters, world rules, timelines, hooks, and unresolved conflicts from the text, marking uncertainties instead of inventing canon.
  • Reference Management: Distinguishes between importing chapters, ingesting material as reference only, and attaching archived sources as canon guides for future chapters.
  • Use Case: You have a 40-chapter web novel draft and want InkOS to continue it. The Skill imports the chapters in order, reconstructs character and plot state, reports gaps and contradictions, and identifies the safe point to resume writing.

Quick Start

Import my existing novel manuscript into the current InkOS book and reconstruct its story state so I can continue writing from where it stopped.

FAQPage Schema
How do I import an existing novel into InkOS to continue writing it?

Provide your manuscript and state that you want it imported as chapters. The Skill adds the text as real chapters in natural chapter-number order, reconstructs characters, world rules, and plot hooks, then reports the safe continuation point.

What is the difference between importing chapters and ingesting reference material?

Importing chapters makes the text part of the active book and triggers state reconstruction. Ingesting material keeps the text as reference only, so it informs future writing without becoming actual chapters of the book.

Can I attach another author's work as canon reference without copying it?

Yes. The manage_book_reference mode archives an external source to guide future chapters for purposes you state. Your own manuscript is never treated as an imitation target by default.

What happens when the imported manuscript has contradictions or gaps?

Contradictions are preserved with evidence pointers for both versions and marked as conflicts rather than silently resolved. Missing canon is flagged as uncertainty for later confirmation instead of being invented.

Does importing a manuscript overwrite my existing chapters?

No. When the active book already has chapters, the Skill confirms the continuation point before proceeding, so existing content is preserved and the import is positioned correctly.
