What problem does it solve?

kb-work-item eliminates the manual coordination gap between adding new requirements (work items) and ensuring they are verifiable (linked tests) and properly scheduled for execution (backlog phase assignment).

Core Features & Use Cases

  • Single-invocation work item creation: Creates a work item and immediately links it to a test so nothing is left unverified.
  • Automatic linked test creation (GOV-12): Enforces that every work item triggers a test creation step and applies quality rules for meaningful PASS/FAIL criteria.
  • Mandatory phase assignment (GOV-13): Assigns the test to a PLAN-001 phase at creation using the taxonomy mapping, preventing orphan items.

Quick Start

Create a new work item and automatically generate its linked test and PLAN-001 phase assignment by running: kb-work-item "Add regression coverage for widget embed error handling" --spec SPEC-1496 --origin regression
