SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve?

Kiln Cleanup removes accumulated QA artifacts from the .kiln/qa/ directory to reclaim disk space and keep environments tidy. It also supports a dry-run mode to preview exactly what would be removed without deleting anything.

Core Features & Use Cases

Purges stale QA artifacts from .kiln/qa/ (test-results, playwright-report, videos, traces, screenshots, results) to reclaim disk space.
Supports --dry-run to preview deletions and confirm impact before enforcing changes.
Preserves the directory structure and operates idempotently, ensuring repeated runs don't delete already-purged content.

Quick Start

Run the Kiln Cleanup process with --dry-run to preview removals, then run without --dry-run to perform the purge.

FAQPage Schema

How do I clean up stale QA artifacts to reclaim disk space?▼

To clean up stale QA artifacts, purge subdirectories like test-results, playwright-report, videos, traces, and screenshots. The process operates idempotently to safely remove accumulated files while preserving the directory structure.

Can I preview what files will be deleted before purging QA artifacts?▼

Yes, you can preview deletions by running the purge in dry-run mode. Dry-run reports the counts and sizes of stale artifacts across all subdirectories without actually deleting anything, allowing you to confirm the impact first.

What happens if the .kiln/qa/ directory is missing during an artifact purge?▼

If the .kiln/qa/ directory is missing during an artifact purge, the process gracefully handles it without throwing errors. It simply skips the deletion and provides a final summary of the actions taken or planned.

Does artifact cleanup work idempotently across multiple runs?▼

Yes, artifact cleanup works idempotently across multiple runs. Repeated executions do not delete already-purged content or cause errors, ensuring safe automation for reclaiming disk space from Playwright reports and test results.

What is the best way to automate purging Playwright videos and traces?▼

The best way to automate purging Playwright videos and traces is to run the cleanup without dry-run mode after verifying the impact. This safely removes stale files from the .kiln/qa/ directory and reports the reclaimed disk space.
