FAQPage Schema

How do I structure onboarding for new software contributors?▼

Structure onboarding by applying time-boxed Day-1, Week-1, and Month-1 learning paths with progressive disclosure. This framework drives phased contributor ramp-up using scaffolding and validation checkpoints to ensure measurable milestone outcomes.

What is a time-boxed learning path for developer onboarding?▼

A time-boxed learning path is a structured onboarding schedule that guides new contributors from initial setup to domain mastery. It divides ramp-up into Day-1, Week-1, and Month-1 phases with validation checkpoints to measure progress and reduce ramp time.

How do validation checkpoints work in contributor ramp-up?▼

Validation checkpoints function as self-contained milestones within the onboarding framework. They provide measurable outcomes at each phase of the learning path, ensuring new contributors master setup and domain concepts before advancing to the next time-boxed stage.

Do I need a specific file format to set up learning paths?▼

You need a SKILL.md file with YAML frontmatter containing name and description properties. You can optionally add supporting resources in scripts/, references/, and assets/ directories to enable scalable, repeatable onboarding workflows.

Can I use scaffolding and mentoring for software project onboarding at scale?▼

Yes, scaffolding and mentoring are designed for scalable, repeatable onboarding workflows across software projects. They enable guided escalation from environment setup to domain mastery, reducing ramp time for multiple new contributors simultaneously.

What is the best way to reduce new contributor ramp time?▼

The best way to reduce ramp time is implementing structured, time-boxed onboarding with Day-1, Week-1, and Month-1 pathways. This approach uses progressive disclosure and validation checkpoints to guide contributors efficiently from setup to domain mastery.
