SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve?

This Skill helps Flutter developers implement Android-native capabilities that Flutter cannot directly access by providing a reliable Kotlin platform-channel integration pattern.

Core Features & Use Cases

MethodChannel Architecture: Create thin Kotlin dispatchers with handler registries, lifecycle-aware registration, and Flutter-native communication boundaries.
Native Integration Patterns: Handle main-looper execution, engine lifecycle management, notImplemented fallbacks, and native-to-Flutter callbacks.
Use Case: Build Android Auto support, foreground services, widgets, or deep operating system integrations while keeping business logic in Dart whenever possible.

Quick Start

Use the kotlin skill to implement a Kotlin MethodChannel handler registry for a new Flutter Android feature.

Frequently Asked Questions about kotlin

High-intent search queries and answers about installing and using this skill.

FAQPage Schema

How do I create a MethodChannel in Kotlin for Flutter native Android integration?▼

To create a MethodChannel for Flutter native Android integration, you build a thin Kotlin dispatcher with a handler registry that manages Flutter engine communication and lifecycle-aware registration. This pattern establishes a typed boundary for safe native-to-Flutter invocation.

When do I need Kotlin platform channels in a Flutter app?▼

You need Kotlin platform channels when your Flutter app requires native Android capabilities beyond Dart APIs, such as Android Auto support, foreground services, or deep OS-level integrations. This Skill provides the reliable platform-channel pattern to bridge those features.

What's the best way to handle main-thread execution in Flutter Android native channels?▼

Handling main-thread execution in Flutter Android native channels requires reliable main-looper execution and lifecycle-aware registration within your Kotlin dispatcher. This ensures safe native-to-Flutter callbacks and proper engine lifecycle management during platform communication.

Can I implement Android foreground services in Flutter using Kotlin?▼

Yes, you can implement Android foreground services in Flutter by using Kotlin platform channels to bridge the native OS-level feature. This approach keeps your business logic in Dart whenever possible while handling the native integration through a MethodChannel dispatcher.

Why does my Flutter platform channel throw a notImplemented error on Android?▼

A Flutter platform channel throws a notImplemented error on Android when the Kotlin handler registry lacks a registered handler for the invoked method. Implementing a notImplemented fallback within your MethodChannel dispatcher resolves this native integration gap.

Do I need to keep business logic in Dart when building Flutter native Android integrations?▼

You should keep business logic in Dart whenever possible when building Flutter native Android integrations. Use Kotlin platform channels strictly as a thin dispatcher to bridge OS-level features, maintaining a typed boundary between native and Flutter layers.
