SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve?

It solves slow, resource-heavy Kova test runtime by helping you identify the real performance bottleneck and fix it without breaking coverage.

Core Features & Use Cases

Evidence-first benchmarking: Establishes baselines using full-suite and scoped Vitest runs, including import breakdown diagnostics.
Root-cause driven optimization: Guides you to reduce cold-start costs, avoid unnecessary module loading, and refactor hot paths to be more lightweight.
Coverage preservation & verification: Ensures verification runs after changes, maintains coverage shape, and updates performance reports with before/after metrics.

Quick Start

Use $kova-test-performance to benchmark a targeted slow test file, diagnose the dominant wall-time/RSS driver, and produce a scoped fix with coverage retained.

Frequently Asked Questions about kova-test-performance

High-intent search queries and answers about installing and using this skill.

FAQPage Schema

How do I benchmark and fix slow Vitest execution without losing test coverage?▼

To fix slow Vitest execution without losing coverage, establish an evidence-first baseline using full-suite and scoped runs, diagnose import hotspots, refactor module loading, and verify with updated before/after performance reporting.

What causes high CPU and RSS memory usage during Vitest integration tests?▼

High CPU and RSS memory usage during Vitest integration tests is caused by import hotspots, eager plugin or channel loading, and gateway or server lifecycle overhead at integration-to-unit boundaries.

How do I diagnose import duration breakdowns in a slow Vitest test file?▼

Diagnose import duration breakdowns in a slow Vitest test file by running scoped Vitest benchmarks, using import breakdown tooling to identify module loading hotspots, and targeting narrower helpers for refactoring.

Can I optimize Kova test runtime for a full-suite group run instead of just targeted files?▼

You can optimize Kova test runtime for full-suite group runs by applying evidence-first benchmarking, reducing cold-start costs, and avoiding unnecessary module loading to decrease CPU and RSS while preserving coverage.

What is the best way to ensure test reliability is maintained after performance optimizations?▼

The best way to ensure test reliability after performance optimizations is to execute mandatory verification runs that maintain the coverage shape and update performance reports with before and after metrics.
