SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve?

Lean UX Canvas helps teams frame a business problem before leaping to solutions, surfacing assumptions, and enabling rapid learning across sprints.

Core Features & Use Cases

One-page template to structure eight canvases (Business Problem, Business Outcomes, Users, User Outcomes & Benefits, Solutions, Hypotheses, Riskiest Assumption, Least Work to Learn Next)
Facilitates cross-functional collaboration with a standard workflow, prompts, and examples
Supports iterative discovery sprints and hypothesis-driven development

Quick Start

Describe the Business Problem (Box 1) and then fill Boxes 2 through 8 in order.

FAQPage Schema

What is a Lean UX Canvas and how does it help with product discovery?▼

A Lean UX Canvas is a one-page template that helps teams frame a business problem, surface assumptions, and define learning experiments before building. It structures hypothesis-driven discovery to align cross-functional teams quickly.

How do I facilitate a Lean UX Canvas workshop for my team?▼

To facilitate a Lean UX Canvas workshop, guide the team through eight ordered sections starting with the Business Problem, then fill Boxes 2 through 8 sequentially to define outcomes, users, hypotheses, and the least work to learn next.

What do I need to define before using hypothesis-driven development for a new initiative?▼

Before using hypothesis-driven development, you need a defined business problem, measurable business outcomes, specific user segments, multiple solution options, and a clear understanding of your riskiest assumption to test.

When should I use a Lean UX Canvas instead of jumping straight to solution building?▼

Use a Lean UX Canvas during early discovery or when reframing existing work to ensure cross-functional alignment. It prevents premature solution building by forcing teams to identify riskiest assumptions and run fast learning experiments first.

How do I identify the riskiest assumption and smallest learning experiment for my product?▼

After defining your business problem, users, and hypotheses on the canvas, evaluate your assumptions to find the riskiest one. Design the least work smallest learning experiment to test that specific assumption rapidly across sprints.
