SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve?

Level design teams need an engine-agnostic blueprint to plan layouts, encounters, pacing, and environmental storytelling, ensuring smooth handoffs to engineering and art.

Core Features & Use Cases

Produces level design documents, blockout specifications, and pacing curves
Roadmaps the end-to-end design process from concept to handoff
Supports engine engineers with canonical outputs for implementation and QA

Quick Start

Generate a complete Level Designer plan for the first level and produce corresponding blockout specifications for engineers.

Frequently Asked Questions about level-designer

High-intent search queries and answers about installing and using this skill.

FAQPage Schema

How do I create engine-agnostic level design documentation for my game?▼

Engine-agnostic level design documentation is created by generating spatial planning blueprints, blockout specifications, and pacing curves to guide engineering and art teams through production workflows without tying to a specific engine.

What's the best way to structure level design handoffs for art and engineering teams?▼

Level design handoffs are structured using canonical outputs like blockout specifications, encounter tables, and level documentation, ensuring clear phase guidance and artifact generation for engineers, artists, and QA teams to streamline production.

How do I plan pacing curves and encounter tables for level design?▼

Pacing curves and encounter tables are planned by organizing spatial level documentation that maps out per-level design structure, ensuring smooth progression and environmental storytelling throughout the gameplay experience.

Can I use this level design process for environmental storytelling and blockout planning?▼

Yes, this level design process applies directly to environmental storytelling and blockout planning, producing design documents and specifications that roadmaps the end-to-end process from concept to team handoff.

Does this level design approach work without relying on a specific game engine?▼

Yes, this approach is engine-agnostic, meaning it focuses on creating spatial level planning documentation and canonical outputs independently, allowing any engineering team to implement the designs in their chosen engine.

Why do I need level documentation instead of directly building levels in the engine?▼

Level documentation is needed to establish pacing curves, encounter tables, and blockout specifications beforehand, preventing miscommunication and ensuring smooth production handoffs to engineering and art teams.
