SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve?

Enforces a 3-strike rule to prevent infinite linter loops while fixing issues.

Core Features & Use Cases

3-Strike procedure: Targeted fixes, reasoned re-evaluation, then pause.
Clear exit criteria: When to stop, report, and ask for guidance.
Use Case: Auto-fix cycle ends with clear user prompt if unresolved.

Quick Start

Apply a fix, re-run linter, and stop after the third failed attempt with a user prompt.

Frequently Asked Questions about linter-loop-limits

High-intent search queries and answers about installing and using this skill.

FAQPage Schema

How do I prevent infinite loops when auto-fixing linter issues?▼

A 3-strike limit on linter-fix loops prevents infinite looping by halting after three unsuccessful fix attempts. The Skill enforces structured tracking of each attempt and exits with a user prompt when the cap is reached, avoiding endless re-runs.

What happens when automated linter fixes don't resolve issues after multiple attempts?▼

After three failed fix attempts, the automation stops and prompts the user for guidance. This bail-out mechanism prevents unintended config changes or suppressions while clarifying when manual intervention is needed.

How do I set up a disciplined workflow for iterative linting and fixing?▼

Apply a fix, re-run the linter, evaluate the result, then repeat up to three times. The Skill enforces this 3-strike procedure with clear exit criteria and standardized communication, ensuring fixes are targeted and reasoned before pausing.

Can I use linter bail-out rules across different codebases?▼

Yes, the 3-strike discipline applies to automated lint-fix sessions across codebases. It uses standardized attempt tracking and a consistent after-three-fail template, making it portable across projects with different linting tools.

What's the difference between stopping linter loops and suppressing linter warnings?▼

Loop limits halt repeated fix attempts when progress stalls; suppressions silence warnings without fixing underlying issues. This Skill enforces hard caps on iteration to guide fixes via discipline, not bypass them through suppression.
