SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve?

This skill helps teams quickly spin up a unified local development environment by generating a single docker-compose.local.yml that orchestrates both infrastructure and application containers at the project root.

Core Features & Use Cases

Single-file orchestration: docker-compose.local.yml at project root to run all services.
Local_run switch: bypass authentication and route to local adapters for development.
Dockerfile.local per service: builds application containers from per-service Dockerfile.local configurations.
All-in-one lifecycle: start with docker-compose -f docker-compose.local.yml up -d and stop with down.
Use Case: On a feature branch, run local-setup to guarantee parity with CI and staging locally.

Quick Start

Run the /local-setup command to generate docker-compose.local.yml, then:

docker-compose -f docker-compose.local.yml up -d
docker-compose -f docker-compose.local.yml down

FAQPage Schema

How do I set up a local Docker development environment with a single compose file?▼

A single docker-compose.local.yml file orchestrates both infrastructure and application containers at the project root to create a unified local development environment. It ensures reproducible local stacks for features, onboarding, and demos.

How does local Docker development handle authentication bypass and service adapters?▼

Local Docker development handles authentication bypass by enforcing a LOCAL_RUN flag workflow. This switch routes applications to local adapters and controls authentication bypass during local development.

What is the best way to build application containers for a local Docker stack?▼

The best way is using per-service Dockerfile.local configurations. This method builds application containers individually to control authentication bypass, service adapters, and health checks within the unified compose file.

How do I start and stop all local development containers using docker-compose?▼

You start and stop local development containers using docker-compose -f docker-compose.local.yml up -d to start and down to stop. This manages the all-in-one lifecycle of your infrastructure and application services.

Does a single docker-compose file guarantee parity with CI and staging locally?▼

A single docker-compose.local.yml file helps guarantee parity with CI and staging locally. Running this setup on a feature branch ensures your local development environment mirrors your infrastructure and application service configurations.
