SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve? Building a Model Context Protocol server from scratch requires understanding protocol conventions, SDK patterns, and tool design, which is difficult without a structured reference. ## Core Features & Use Cases - MCP Server Scaffolding: Guides the creation of MCP servers using Python FastMCP or Node/TypeScript SDKs. - Vendor Reference Proxy: Delegates to Anthropic's official mcp-builder instructions and supporting scripts, references, and assets. - Use Case: A developer wants to expose an internal API as MCP tools so an AI agent can call it; this Skill walks through designing tools, implementing the server, and following protocol best practices. ## Quick Start Ask the assistant to help you build an MCP server for your API using the mcp-builder guidance.

FAQPage Schema

How do I build an MCP server in Python?▼

Use the FastMCP framework to define tools, resources, and prompts as decorated Python functions. This Skill proxies Anthropic's official mcp-builder guide, which walks through server structure, tool design, and protocol conventions step by step.

Should I use FastMCP or the Node TypeScript SDK for MCP?▼

FastMCP suits Python-based services and rapid prototyping, while the Node/TypeScript SDK fits JavaScript ecosystems. The Skill covers both paths and defers to the vendored official guidance for each language.

What is the Model Context Protocol used for?▼

MCP is a protocol for exposing tools, resources, and prompts to AI agents in a standardized way. Servers built with it let AI clients discover and call capabilities without custom integrations.

Where are the mcp-builder instructions and supporting files located?▼

The Skill proxies to the vendored copy at .claude/vendor/anthropic-skills/skills/mcp-builder/, which contains the full SKILL.md plus scripts, references, and assets used during server construction.

Can this Skill invoke itself automatically?▼

No, the frontmatter sets disable-model-invocation to true, so it must be triggered explicitly by the user rather than auto-selected by the model.
