SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

💡 This Skill includes references (resource) components.

What problem does it solve?

Migration Ops provides a structured, checkpoint-driven workflow to plan and execute complex system migrations, preventing downtime and drift during transitions.

Core Features & Use Cases

Phase-driven assessment, planning, execution, and verification with per-step gates and rollback
Multi-session checkpointing that lets teams pause and resume migrations without losing context
Dual-write and expand-migrate-contract patterns for safe database, framework, auth, and platform migrations
Cross-skill orchestration with reverse-spec, app-architect, stack-forge, code-auditor, deploy-ops

Quick Start

Describe your current system and target state, then begin with /migrate assess to start the migration workflow.

Frequently Asked Questions about migration-ops

High-intent search queries and answers about installing and using this skill.

FAQPage Schema

How do I execute a database engine swap without system downtime?▼

A live system migration uses a checkpoint-driven, multi-session workflow with dual-write patterns and verification gates. This approach enables incremental transitions with rollback procedures, preventing downtime and drift during complex database or framework changes.

How do I plan an auth provider change safely?▼

Planning an auth provider change involves phase-driven assessment, planning, execution, and verification with per-step gates. The workflow uses expand-migrate-contract patterns to ensure safe transitions and provides rollback procedures for each incremental step.

Can I pause and resume a complex framework upgrade without losing context?▼

Yes, you can pause and resume framework upgrades using multi-session checkpointing. This feature maintains migration context across sessions, allowing teams to stop and restart the workflow without losing progress or system state.

What is the best way to rollback a failed platform migration?▼

The best way to rollback a failed platform migration is through per-step rollback procedures integrated into a checkpoint-driven workflow. Each execution phase includes verification gates that trigger rollback actions if validation checks fail.

Does this migration orchestrator work with existing code audits?▼

Yes, the migration orchestrator coordinates with code-auditor and deploy-ops skills. It reads upstream state from reverse-spec, stack-forge, and app-architect to align migration steps with existing system architecture and deployment workflows.

When should I use dual-write patterns for a database migration?▼

Use dual-write patterns during live database migrations requiring zero downtime. This technique writes to both source and target systems simultaneously, enabling safe incremental transitions with rollback capabilities if verification gates fail.
