What problem does it solve?

Designing effective mixed-age activities is challenging when older students are used for supervision rather than meaningfully contributing to learning. This skill provides a structured approach to ensure both age groups learn through genuine interdependence.

Core Features & Use Cases

  • Designs fully interdependent tasks requiring contributions from both age groups, where the older students articulate explanations, monitor understanding, and adapt explanations, while younger students engage with materials and experience ZPD scaffolding.
  • Supports cross-age tutoring protocols, vertical grouping, and multi-year projects in Montessori and traditional classrooms, including weekly buddy sessions and longer-term collaborations.

Quick Start

Pair an older student with a younger student and design a task that requires both to contribute, specifying learning objective, age gap, required materials, roles, and a tutoring protocol.
