SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION & REQUIREMENTS

What problem does it solve?

Rewrites downstream narrative beats to be consistent with an upstream insertion while preserving their original purpose in the canon.

Core Features & Use Cases

Maintains continuity after inserts by guiding rewrites that fit the new context without introducing new plot elements.
Preserves the target beat's function (pivot, reveal, tonal shift) while adapting surface details to the insert.
Accepts structured inputs (insertTitle, insertBody, nodeTitle, nodeBody, criticReason, recentChain) to drive precise rewrites.

Quick Start

Provide the insertTitle, insertBody, nodeTitle, nodeBody, and criticReason to receive a JSON rewrite that fits the insert while preserving the node’s function.

FAQPage Schema

How do I fix narrative continuity after inserting a new plot beat?▼

Maintaining narrative continuity after inserting a new plot beat requires rewriting downstream nodes to match the updated context. This repairs physical and causal drift while preserving the original plot function of each affected beat.

What is a reharmonize pass in interactive fiction?▼

A reharmonize pass in interactive fiction is a process of rewriting single narrative nodes to repair tonal follow-through and causal drift. It ensures downstream beats remain consistent with upstream inserts without introducing new plot elements.

How do I rewrite a story scene to match a changed mood?▼

Rewriting a story scene to match a changed mood involves adapting the surface details of the downstream beat while keeping its structural function. This tonal follow-through ensures the scene naturally follows the newly inserted emotional shift.

Can I preserve a plot reveal when rewriting a downstream narrative beat?▼

You can preserve a plot reveal when rewriting a downstream narrative beat. The rewriting process maintains the target beat's original structural function, such as a pivot or reveal, while conforming surface details to the new input chain.

What inputs do I need to rewrite a narrative beat for continuity?▼

Rewriting a narrative beat for continuity requires the insert title and body, the original node title and body, a critic reason explaining the drift, and the recent narrative chain. These structured inputs drive a precise contextual rewrite.

What is the best way to prevent plot drift when adding interactive fiction inserts?▼

The best way to prevent plot drift when adding interactive fiction inserts is to perform a targeted rewrite of downstream beats. This confines changes to surface details and tonal follow-through, ensuring the canon remains intact without introducing new plot elements.
