What problem does it solve?

This Skill assists in creating and managing modular monolithic architectures with NestJS, ensuring clear module boundaries and scalable design.

Core Features & Use Cases

Architects modular systems using NestJS with strict boundaries and clear responsibilities.
Supports best practices for dependency injection, event-driven communication, and layered architecture.
Use Case: When building a large backend with multiple bounded contexts, this Skill guides structuring codebases, defining interfaces, and enforcing module boundaries to improve maintainability.

Quick Start

Use the nestjs-modular-monolith skill to outline an architecture for a microservices-inspired monolith that separates user, billing, and order modules.

Frequently Asked Questions about nestjs-modular-monolith

High-intent search queries and answers about installing and using this skill.

FAQPage Schema

How do I structure a NestJS monolith for large enterprise applications?▼

Structure a NestJS modular monolith by establishing strict module boundaries, layered architecture principles, and clear responsibilities for each bounded context. This approach ensures scalable and maintainable codebases for enterprise applications.

What is a modular monolith architecture and when do I need it in NestJS?▼

A modular monolith architecture organizes a NestJS application into independent modules with strict boundaries, mimicking microservices within a single deployable unit. You need it when managing large backends with multiple bounded contexts to improve maintainability.

How do I enforce module boundaries in a NestJS application?▼

Enforce NestJS module boundaries by structuring codebases with clear responsibilities, defining interfaces between modules, and applying layered architecture principles. This prevents unauthorized cross-boundary calls and maintains clean separation.

Does this modular monolith approach support event-driven communication in NestJS?▼

Yes, the modular monolith approach supports event-driven communication in NestJS. It incorporates best practices for dependency injection and event-driven interactions to ensure modules remain decoupled while coordinating workflows.

What's the best way to organize bounded contexts like user, billing, and order modules in NestJS?▼

Organize bounded contexts in NestJS by outlining a microservices-inspired monolith that separates each context into its own module. Define clear interfaces and strict boundaries to separate user, billing, and order domains.

When should I not use a modular monolith and choose microservices instead?▼

Choose microservices over a modular monolith when you require independent deployment scaling across physically separated services. A modular monolith keeps bounded contexts in one codebase, prioritizing lower operational overhead over distributed deployment.
